The power of time blocking
--
Imagine you wake up with no plan for the day, you just know that you probably have to do things like go to work. At the end of the day, you realise that you haven’t done much because when you wanted to do something, something else unexpected came up with a higher priority or just a distraction like social media, and you end up doing “nothing”.
We are living in times when “focus” is a power that not all people can boast about.
What is time blocking, and why you should be doing it?
Time blocking is like building a Lego structure. In Lego, you have different blocks of various shapes and sizes that you use to create a unique design. Similarly, time blocking involves breaking your day into distinct blocks of time, just like Lego blocks, each dedicated to a specific task or activity.
Setting up specific tasks aside will help you to focus on a task or project at a time giving you more control over your day and helping you prioritize your tasks.
Time blocking improves focus and deters procrastination.
Multi-tasking vs time blocking
Research shows that only about 2.5% of people are able to multitask effectively. The rest of the population only believes they are multitasking effectively.
In fact, trying to do more than one thing a the same time compromises your ability to complete both tasks well.
The more we multitask, the less we are able to accomplish.
