Why you should worry about your screen time
These past few months I have been very concerned about how much I spend using my smartphone and personal computer.
I decided to have only the apps that are needed on my home screen and have also removed all social media apps or at least logged out (to make it harder to use).
You don’t know things till you know.
Suddenly I started scrolling less and doing more.
I also set a time limit of an hour.
I still struggle with myself not to use the phone for more than an hour a day and I am getting better at it every day.
The benefit are very clear, after reducing my screen time:
- I read more
- I write more
- I have more time to work on myself
Imagine that a regular person like me have to work 8hrs, sleep 8hrs, sometimes commute, etc.
I only have about 5 hrs per day to go to the gym and work on personal things.
Using my free time to share things online, work on my side projects (like Frontend Garage), contribute in OSS, etc.
This requires great focus and consistency.
And scrolling on social media or watching random things on the Internet isn’t helpful.
If you are spending more than an hour doing things unrelate with your goals, it’s time to reflect and stop.
Screen time it’s okay, but only if you are doing big things.
